The TYRON Safety Band technology was invented in 1977 and consisted of a special Aluminum wheel and Aluminum band.

Further development continued and per request in the 80’s by the British Ministry of Defense (MoD) TYRON developed a range of steel bands for Land Rover vehicles. Not only was the new development stronger than the aluminum bands but they also solved the problem of ‘catalytic’ reaction between the two different metals where the aluminum bands were prone to welding onto the steel wheels preventing removal of tires when they needed to be changed.

2002

In 2002 TYRON re-designed and patented a new TYRON Multiband system which incorporated an adjustable height to accommodate the changing designs in wheel wells. The handling performance of the vehicle is improved due to the ‘plug in’ feet creating an extra ‘grip’ between the TYRON band and the wheel outperforming all other Safety Band designs.

In 2008 TYRON invented the world’s first multi-piece All Terrain Rubber (ATR) Runflat system. This ingenious design is fitted without any special tools or expensive hydraulic presses to military split rims, giving excellent off-road capabilities with runflat capability of up to 150 km which far exceeds the Finabel standard.

In 2009 TYRON developed the R4 wheel for armored 4×4 and cash carrying vehicles. This super strong alloy wheel, with a load rating of 1600kgs, incorporates an ingenious beadlock design. When fitted with our ATR-MP they allow you to travel on or off road for over 50 km with all 4 tires deflated.

In 2013 TYRON entered into a partnership with Global Wheels of South Africa to provide military customers with complete wheel assemblies including Michelin, Pirelli and Continental tires offering one stop shopping.

In 2017 TYRON starts development of a Carbon Fiber inner spine to reduce the weight of the ATR-MP by over 40% making it the lightest Rubber Runflat in the world.

In 2018 TYRON introduces the ATR-Beadlock made of Rubber which guarantees the clamping force on the tire regardless of tire make.

In 2019 TYRON introduces:

The ATR-SP a low lost single piece rubber runflat which has been the industry standard for many years.

In 2019 TYRON introduces:
The TYRON ATR-Custom – the ultimate runflat for a single piece wheel made of rubber.

In 2019 TYRON introduces:
The TYRON 18” R4 Alloy bolt-together wheel with an impressive 1900 Kg load rating

TYRON continues to develop runflat technology for civilian and military wheel safety and security and offers support through its extensive worldwide sales and service network.
